What is the Purpose of a Project Binder?

A Project Binder provides a corporate standard to facilitate planning and tracking of all Enterprise projects. The documents in the binder outline the project life cycle step by step, and provide templates for core processes.

When Does a Project Need a Project Binder?

All projects with an initial scope exceeding 200 man-hours are required by Enterprise policy to maintain a Project Binder. Exceptions must be authorized at the Director level or higher.

How is a Project Organized?

According to Enterprise policy, all projects are divided into eight phases. Each phase has an objective and associated documents and deliverables as shown here. Please note that this outline gives a general overview of the process needed to guide a project through its entire life cycle, but that it does not deal specifically with all the details of each phase. For more detail on any phase, document, or step, please refer directly to The Project Planning and Documentation Guide.

I'm New to Project Binders. Where do I Start?

The key to a successful project is effective management of resources, time, and people. As a project manager you must organize information in a meaningful way to avoid dropping important data. The Enterprise project standard uses Project Phases to provide a tool for understanding the key processes involved in managing complex projects and Project Binders to physically organize and standardize the planning and documentation of the project. Accordingly, there are two documents that will help you in your planning.
